چکیده

We describe the design of a parallel global atmospheric circulation model, PCCM2. This parallel model is functionally equivalent to the National Center for Atmospheric Research's Community Climate Model, CCM2, but is struc-tured to exploit distributed memory multicomputers. PCCM2 incorporates parallel spectral transform, semi-Lagrangian transport, and load balancing algorithms. We present detailed performance results on the IBM SP2 and Intel Paragon. These results provide insights into the scalability of the individual parallel algorithms and of the parallel model as a whole.

Load-Balancing Algorithms for Climate Models

Implementations of climate models on scalable parallel computer systems can suuer from load imbalances because of temporal and spatial variations in the amount of computation required for physical pa-rameterizations such as solar radiation and convec-tive adjustment. We have developed specialized techniques for correcting such imbalances. These techniques are incorporated in a general-purpose, ...

Effect of Buildings around Highways on the Efficiency of T-Shaped Parallel Acoustic Barriers: A Theoretical Study

Introduction: Over recent years, various programs have been conducted to reduce noise, indicating the increasing concerns of society over noise pollution. This study has been performed to enhance the performance of parallel barriers on two sides of a highway considering the surrounding buildings. Material and Methods: The 2D boundary element simulation method was employed to predict the noise ...

Extending scalability of the community atmosphere model

The Community Atmosphere Model (CAM) is the atmosphere component of the Community Climate System Model (CCSM), and is the largest consumer of computing resources in typical CCSM simulations. The parallel implementation of the Community Atmosphere Model (CAM) employs a number of different domain decompositions. Currently, each decomposition must utilize the same number of MPI processes, limiting...

Redundancy Allocation Combined with Supplier Selection for Design of Series-parallel Systems

In this paper a redundancy allocation problem is studied where for the first time the supplier selection is taken into consideration and redundant components are provided from appropriate suppliers with the most suitable offers such as discount on buying price of components, warranty length for components, things like that, so that the system reliability, profit and the warranty length proposed...

CPL6: The New Extensible, High Performance Parallel Coupler for the Community Climate System Model

Coupled climate models are large, multiphysics applications designed to simulate the Earth’s climate and predict the response of the climate to any changes in the forcing or boundary conditions. The Community Climate System Model (CCSM) is a widely used state-of-the-art climate model that has released several versions to the climate community over the past ten years. Like many climate models, C...
